Hiking

In Pieterburen and the surrounding villages you wil find beautiful hiking trails that sometimes lead over old church paths. The Landloop (Country Walk) is a described trail around Pieterburen over rugged terrain and farmyards. Discover the Lauwersmeer Nationaal Park (Lauwersmeer National Park) and go for a walk with a ranger through the rich flora and fauna. The park is a favorite location for birdwatchers. Pieterburen is also the starting point of the longest walking trail in The Netherlands, the Pieterpad to Maastricht. Wad en Wierdenpad Wierdenpad (Mudflat and Terp Path) also runs through our village.

Cyling

Experience Pieterburen and the surroundings on a bicycle. Around Pieterburen you can still make wonderful calming bicycle tours. Cylcling to Lauwersoog on the embankment along the sea to enjoy a tasty fresh water fish or to the Noordpolderzijl, a tidal harbor with old time cafe. If you take the LF10 along the North Sea coast you also pass through Pieterburen. Outdoor Sport Centre The Green Kicker in Pieterburen rents bikes, kick bikes and skates.

New in Groningen is the cycling network with QR-codes. You can use your smart phone to read the QR-codes on the information boards and learn all about the area.

Boating

The natural waterways of Groningen, the Groninger Maren, allow you to enjoy peaceful canoeing, or to take a trip with a silent electric boat. For information see: The Green Kicker in Pieterburen en Marenland in Winsum.

On the Lauwersmeer you can take a boat trip on the nostalgic boat ‘De Vlinderbalg‘. During the summer season this boat goes out several times a week for a trip of approximately 2 hours. And what do you think about a trip on a rescueboat or fishing on the Ms Tender.… a lot of things to enjoy……!
