If you really want to get to know the Wadden area, then Mudflat walking is definitely part of it. Just a bit up to the knees in the dark gray mud and then over sandbanks and through channels to get acquainted with this beautiful area. You may even see a seal lying on a sandbank in the distance.
All this, of course, with the right clothes and shoes and always under the guidance of a guide because it can be treacherous on the Wad. You can choose from educational tours, various wanderings or walking to the Engelsmanplaat, crossing to Ameland or even the toughest tour: Schiermonnikoog. Also nice is a shorter version to Schiermonnikoog with a bit of sailing first, the Brakzandtocht. Book in advance because there is not unlimited space.
